If you are planing to install a one colour epoxy floor coating in your garage and thinking about doing it yourself, please have a look at our easy to follow Step by Step DIY Guide. In the following example we are going to show you how to install epoxy floor coating on a concrete garage floor.

We are going to use DULUX Luxafloor ECO2 Water Borne EPOXY Floor Coating. This is one of the best product on the market today. Luxafloor ECO2 is a low build, water borne, two pack epoxy floor coating that provides a hardwearing surface. It is ideal for use in areas subject to foot and rubber-tyred vehicle traffic. Can be applied as a slip resistant finish to provide maximum safety by using a suitable aggregate. Simply use DULUX Luxafloor Aggregate Slip Resistant Additive to create a non-slip surface.

Epoxy Floor Coating (One Colour):
  Step 1:
Clean the surface of the garage floor. Simply use a broom and try to remove any items, small rocks and dust from its surface.
  Step 2:
Mask the walls to avoid any damages. Use plastic sheets and masking tape and try to cover as much as you can.
  Step 3:
For New or Bare Concrete you need to acid wash the floor. Mix the product with water and start washing the surface. Always start in one corner and work your way out slowly. Once you have done that it is time to wash it off. Use the garden hose and start the washing in the same corner as before. When you are finished, let the concrete dry. For more information, please read the instructions indicated on the actual product.
  Step 4:
Clean the surface of the garage floor by using a vacuum cleaner. Once you have done that, get some masking tape and stick it onto the floor. Peel it off. It is an easy way to check the surface if it needs more cleaning or not. If you still see dust on the tape, vacuum it again. It is a very important step so try not to save time by doing it!
  Step 5:
Fix any big cracks, damages on the surface of the concrete using Luxepoxy Filler.
  Step 6:
Once all the preparation work is done, it is time to apply the epoxy floor coating. Read the instructions carefully before you start. Also check the colour before mixing the product. Before you start make sure that the area is well ventilated! If you are ready, mix the two compounds. Let it sit for about 5 minutes. Now start applying with a brush. Always start in one corner and work your way out. Apply the product with brush and roller. Please keep in mind that you have to work in small sections. No more then 10sqm at a time. Once the whole area is painted, let it dry for 12-24 hours.
  Step 7:
On the following day repeat "Step 6". Applying the second coat is always easier. Using the same method start in one corner and work your way out. Once you have done that, let it dry for at least 24 hours before stepping on the newly installed surface. Please remember that there is a difference in a touch dry and a completely dry surface. You need to wait 48-72 hours before you can park any vehicle in the garage.
