If you are planing to paint the floor in your garage and thinking about doing it yourself, please have a look at our easy to follow Step by Step DIY Guide. In the following example we are going to show you how to paint the surface of a concrete garage floor.

We are going to use BERGER Jet Dry (Heavy Duty) Non-Slip Floor Paint. This is a really good quality product. Berger Jet Dry (Heavy Duty) Floor Paint provides a hardwearing surface. It is ideal for use in areas subject to foot and rubber-tyred vehicle traffic. It can be applied on both interior and exterior surfaces. It is a slip resistant finish and it can provide maximum safety. It is also available in gloss finish but additional slip resistant material need to be added to create a non slip surface. It can also be applied on any surface including timber floor.

Garage Floor Painting:
  Step 1:
Clean the surface of the garage floor. Simply use a broom and try to remove any items, small rocks and dust from its surface.
  Step 2:
Mask the walls to avoid any damages. Use plastic sheets and masking tape and try to cover as much as you can.
  Step 3:
For New or Bare Concrete you need to acid wash the floor. Mix the product with water and start washing the surface. Always start in one corner and work your way out slowly. Once you have done that it is time to wash it off. Use the garden hose and start the washing in the same corner as before. When you are finished, let the concrete dry. For more information, please read the instructions indicated on the actual product.
  Step 4:
Clean the surface of the garage floor by using a vacuum cleaner. Once you have done that, get some masking tape and stick it onto the floor. Peel it off. It is an easy way to check the surface if it needs more cleaning or not. If you still see dust on the tape, vacuum it again. It is a very important step so try not to save time by doing it!
  Step 5:
Fix any big cracks, damages on the surface of the concrete using Concrete Filler.
  Step 6:
Once all the preparation work is done, it is time to apply the paint. Read the instructions carefully and check the colour before you start. Make sure that the area is well ventilated! Now start applying the paint with a brush. Always start in one corner and work your way out. Apply the product with brush and roller. Once the whole area is painted, let it dry for 4-12 hours.
  Step 7:
Once the surface is dry and ready for recoat, repeat "Step 6". Applying the second coat is always easier. Using the same method start in one corner and work your way out. Once you have done that, let it dry for at least 12 hours before stepping on the painted surface. Please remember that there is a difference in a touch dry and a completely dry surface. You need to wait 24-48 hours before you can park any vehicle in the garage.
